Dr. Susan Boettger is a highly sought after piano professor, known for her contagious enthusiasm for learning music as well as her experience and success in teaching students of all ages. Dr. Boettger is the Director of the Keyboard Department at Irvine Valley College, where she has taught group and solo piano for the last 9 years. She also directs and founded the Junior Chamber Music program, a program which has motivated thousands of students to excel in their music studies. She was a winner of the Juilliard Contemporary Concerto competition and premiered solo works for the New Juilliard Ensemble at Lincoln Center. Dr. Boettger's private students have been prize winners in the Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, the Minnesota International e-Competition, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Spotlight Award, and the Young Arts Foundation. Dr. Boettger received her DMA in piano performance at USC, minoring in business and music education. She received her MM from Juilliard and her BM (piano) and BA (mathematics) from Rice University.
INTRODUCTORY PIANO: Students in the introductory class will learn to perform the main theme from Star Wars on the piano (in the Piano Lab) as well as learn rhythm, 5-note finger exercises, beginner notation, and the joy of learning piano.
INTERMEDIATE PIANO students will learn Darth Vader's march, intermediate technical exercises, as well as games to improve sight-reading and rhythm.
ADVANCED PLAYERS will be coached on their current repertoire from their private teachers, as well as challenged with sight-reading and rhythm games. Students will have ample chances to perform for the class and practice their difficult sections.
